Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year to all!



Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012! We hope all of you had an absolutely wonderful holiday season and a happy new year! Much like each and every one of us does at the beginning of a new year, January sets the stage for the perfect opportunity for reflection! Move forward, grow, and continue to develop our wines as well as the relationships with our loyal supporters, and wine club members! It is has been a pleasure getting to know all of you throughout this entire past year! Thank you for all of your loyalty, we appreciate each and every one of you!

As we begin to usher in a new year, the wheels of creativity have been turning fast which resulted in fabulous discussion. How we can better share what we love doing with all of you! We are looking forward to a BIG 2012!!

This year we will be publishing an annual release schedule of all of our wines for the upcoming year and the months in which each wine will be released. Additionally, a monthly Woodhouse Newsletter will be sent to everyone on our mailing list! Newsletter's will contain information about all of our happenings, upcoming events for each month, release schedules, featured wines of the month, and interesting commentary from both our staff, owner and winemaker. Look out for these the first week of every month!

Even though at this time of year the cellar may get a little bit colder, we are continually coming up with creative ways to warm up to each and every one of you. Make communicating and sharing Woodhouse wines easier. A way to mix and mingle with our true extended family! If you are not already our friend, or it’s hard to stop by in person, our Facebook and Twitter pages are both booming! Growing immensely and are the perfect place to stay up to date with the winery, participate in fun contests, see tons of current pictures, and stay in touch with us! Straight from the Tasting Room.... With Daniel

Hello All! As we welcome in the new year, it is with much anticipation that we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new wines! We have changed things up a little bit, and we will be releasing only red wines together, and our whites will be released as public tastings on specified weekends throughout the year. Of course, we will also continue to schedule our releases during the daytime on weekends, as the feedback from November's Darighe release was very positive. We look forward to seeing as many Wine Club members as possible at our releases this year. The exact dates will be sent out to all club members prior to the release.

Upcoming Events

Sunday January 29th, we will be one of this year’s hosts for Weddings of Woodinville. This is a fun event for those who are planning on getting married this year. If you are interested in attending please go to their website but just clicking the link to sign up This is a private event. We will still be open for public tastings from 12-5pm. If you don’t like the crowds and plan on visiting Woodhouse that weekend, I would suggest stopping in on Saturday.

Gather all your friends and families and join us for an exciting afternoon tour of wine tasting, catered food, music and live entertainment during a special open-house of six of Woodinville's top wedding venues. Ticket holders for this event will board chauffeur-driven luxury transportation for a half-day tour that will escort your group to each venue.

Weddings in Woodinville is a special event designed to give couples and their families and friends a sneak preview of each fully-decorated venue to better envision their special wedding day and meet with industry professionals that can help them put it all together.

Fun Wine & Food Pairings

The Kennedy Shah Reserve Riesling 2009 “Debrul Vineyard”. Fragrant wild flowers, peaches, apricots and clover honey, almost a rich creaminess flowing across your palate and landing on a pillow of fresh white fruits. I love this Dry Riesling with an artisan cheese plate. It’s a slam dunk across a large range of cheeses, and has just the right body, acidity and fruit profile to pair with creamier cheeses either cow or goat. It is fabulous as an aperitif to start the evening. Drink it young. Riesling is a wine to be consumed in its youth, mostly because of the low acidity. “The charm of Riesling is in its young and flamboyant fruit.”

One of our surprise pairings of the evening was the Hudson Shah 2009 Viognier with Shrimp Scampi. This wine produced with grapes from Washington’s Red Mountain, Artz Vineyard, is the Viognier for people who like Chardonnay! While it has aromas of tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, and tangerine that round out slightly to offer some citrus, fuji apple and caramel on the palate. The hints of citrus combined with the wine’s acidity could be why it was well suited for the lemony, garlic flavors on our table, and why the two together were a crowd pleaser.

Finally the The Kennedy Shah Orange Muscat 2004 with a frozen raspberry framboise macaroon cake (Macaron aux Framboises Trader Joe’s). The wine is creamy yet with an elegant texture, similar to that of a much more pricey Sauternes from the Bordeaux region. After tasting it with this sweet, fruity, creamy and coconutty dessert, you had to decide whether to take another bite or another sip. I chose both. I was still raving about this match at the end of the evening!

We still are in the beginning of the New Year and I guess it is not too late to wish you a Happy one. “Better late than never”. So yet, what we can look forward to in 2012?

More seriously, even a winemaker makes some New Year’s resolutions, but I never like to take a resolution to stop, only to continue. “Allons enfant de la patrie!” So, this year, I decide to continue enjoying good restaurants and tasty good food, I will continue to drink good wine, I will continue to explore the wine world and discover new wine. And I will also continue to enjoy riding my bike on new trails, continue boating on the ferry to my favorite inspiration place…Bainbridge Island, continue to discover the cultural aspect of Seattle (Seattle symphony, Opera, SAM, Bumbershoot Festival, Folklife Festival, Dave Matthews concert at the Gorge etc, etc, etc), and continue to take some little escapes to Teatro Zinzani or even to Napa. And for something new? I would like to go to a game of the Seahawks or the Sounders, where I can sneak a beer!

These are all things that I like besides my work , which I love, and like wine of course all to be consumed in moderation. La joie de vivre, quality of life, these are aspects which bring balance into your life and power to be creative, to bring you some brightness to your brain, to open your mind.

So I bring all this, in balance, to my work at the winery, and actually into the wine. It is all a part of the energy, inspiration, and passion I use to reach my highest resolution – to continue to make better and better wine. I arrive at the cellar happy to take care of my babies, to pamper them and to watch them grow up. There is no limit, we can always reach higher, that is my resolution, day after day, year after year. It is my passion, depuis et pour toujours.

I will also wish a good year here to my Dad, with who I have more and more conversation about vines and wine experience to share.

And a special good year I wish for Bijal Shah, It is his passion that makes things happened and our work possible and successful. A good year to the team and all the people involved in the Woodhouse family, et bien sur a good year to all our friends and customers. YOU!!!
